From Bean to Bar: How Chocolate Is Made
Every bar begins as a cocoa bean. Follow the journey from harvest to the finished bar, one careful step at a time.
Long before it becomes a bar, chocolate starts life inside the colourful pods of the cocoa tree. Turning those beans into something smooth and delicious takes time, patience and a great deal of care.

It starts at the source
Ripe cocoa pods are harvested by hand and opened to reveal the beans inside. The beans are then fermented and dried — two quiet steps that develop the flavours we recognise as chocolate.
Once dried, the beans are sorted and prepared for the chocolate maker.
The steps that follow
- Roasting brings out aroma and depth.
- Winnowing removes the shell, leaving the cocoa nibs.
- Grinding turns the nibs into a rich cocoa mass.
- Conching refines the texture until it is silky smooth.
- Tempering gives the bar its shine and clean snap.

Why cocoa butter matters
Cocoa butter is what lets chocolate melt so beautifully on the tongue. Chocolate made with 100% pure cocoa butter has a smoother texture and a cleaner finish.
Good chocolate is never an accident — it is the result of many small decisions made well.
